Oil companies are the only ones thrilled with the rising cost of gas these days and there is nothing to indicate the cost at the pumps will decrease at this point.
In Windsor, the prices at the pumps jumped from $1.30 a litre to $1.39 at most stations leaving most people up in arms. Ronald Marentette, a regular customer of Sunoco on Tecumseh Road East, says “it doesn’t matter where you go, the prices are all outrageous”. Many people share his views but will be disappointed to hear that there won’t be any relief any time soon thanks in part to flooding along the Mississippi River.
There are 11 oil refineries in the Baton Rouge and Louisiana area where the flooding is flowing towards and as soon as they are flooded, these refineries will shut down which in turn will create shortfalls and we will see higher than ever prices.
We met up with Amanda Burton of Tecumseh at the pumps and she was furious. “There is no reason we should be seeing prices like this. How the hell are we supposed to survive when everywhere we turn we are being hit this way” She went on to say “I’m so fed up, I think it’s about time I sold my car and got myself a scooter”
